Resources ... The most important and perhaps most underutilized resource for any Garden Zone Manager is the people of his or her community. In fact, ideally all the resources a

person would ever need ought to reside in the local community. And it is pretty amazing how much help you can secure from the folks who live right around you. When you extend yourself just a bit, make an effort to connect with the best people, support seems to flow your way. Just the other day I had a situation where a community member helped me to avert a minor catastrophe. A 50-foot Hemlock tree was threatening to fall directly on my roof. When I saw how the wind was blowing it, and actually witnessed the roots lifting up, I knew something had to be done right away. I made a quick phone call, and a buddy of mine came over with a ladder and a chain saw. In a couple of hours we had the tree down. Could I have hired a tree company? Sure. But the community coherence, the cooperation, friendship and self-sufficiency wouldn't have been there.

What kind of things does a Garden Zone Manager need? Not much in terms of material supplies: a computer, printer, maybe a scanner; a pick and shovel; clippers and loppers; hoes and rakes; a way to get around, by foot, bicycle or some other conveyance.
However, from an intellectual standpoint, there is a pretty broad range of topics with which he ought to have some basic familiarity:

Gardening of course, particularly earth friendly methods; biology; ecology; civics and local law; sociology; religion and theology; and some exposure to higher mathematics and physics. The manager ought to be able to think clearly and to communicate well. Most importantly, he ought to have some inkling of the deeper aspects of spirituality, and the experience of pure consciousness. He also needs to be able to support himself financially. If the manager has to work full-time, it will probably prevent him from doing a complete job in his community. (Having to get a job is the problem that this manager is facing. See About the Author.)
When you start snooping around on the Internet, you discover that there is a phenomenal amount of material available. So much that it's impossible to digest it all. I'm going to try to flesh out a few categories that are more or less related to Garden Zone Management. If you know of any resources that are suitable for this page, please Email your suggestions. Also, please let me know if any of these Links are no longer working.
