November 2004 - This report
has been continuously available since 2002 on this site. When it was
initially published, the Prince George's Gazette printed an article
announcing it. Emails were sent to local civic activists to alert
them. In the more than two years that have passed, the webmaster has
not received an acknowledgement from any government official or county
leader about this data. Not a phone call, not an email, not a fax,
not a letter. Not from the police, nor from the district attorney,
nor the schools, nor social services. Nothing. The county council,
the senators and delegates to Annapolis, the congressmen, judges,
school board members, county planners, chamber of commerce, civic
associations, school principals, church pastors: No communication,
No acknowledgement. Not a word. Zero. Last week I visited the Biggs
family produce stand at the corner of Allentown and Brinkley.
Mrs. Biggs told me that a few days before she had been robbed at gunpoint
at the stand. It was the first time in 12 years that something like
that had happened. It doesn't appear that there's been any change
in the situation with regard to crime since I sold my house in Westchester
Estates a year ago. Nor has there been any change in the responsiveness
of the government in "Gorgeous
Prince George's". |

Camp Springs is a suburban
population center in the southern part
of Prince George's County Maryland, about eight miles from
the U.S. Capital. Mainly residential, it is divided into quadrants
by the intersection of Allentown Road and Branch Avenue. The
southeast quadrant is taken up almost entirely by Andrews
Air Force Base (formerly Camp Springs Army Air Field). Apart
from the base, the most notable landmark is Bells Church,
a 200-year-old United Methodist congregation at the intersection
of Allentown and Branch Avenue.
